一個切實可行的計劃是成功的基礎，美好的未來需要有個規劃藍圖來指導。以下是我對自己將來職業的一個規劃。
大學本科三年級開始着手準備考研的事情，考研的方面有兩方面的選擇：
第一方面是考英語專業或者跨專業考研。這一選擇可以考中國傳媒大學的新聞英語專業，從事新聞英語方面的工作；或者是考北京外國語大學、北京語言大學等語言類的學校，繼續深造我的英語。至於跨專業考研，我諮詢過我們的商務英語老師，她建議我考人力資源管理方面的研究生，譬如：廣東外語外貿大學的人力資源管理專業，或者對外經貿大學等學校。
另一方面，考國外大學的研究生，準備在國外讀研究生。這對於一個英語專業的學生來説是很現實的。在國外可以瞭解更多國內所不能缺乏的資源、信息等。對説英語國家可以有個更好的瞭解，從而更能勝任自己的工作。也可能在國外發展。初步定為國外留學的目標是歐洲或者澳大利亞。
我的職業目標是在外資企業中做一個英語翻譯員。最終下定這個做英語翻譯員的決心卻是來之不易。
首先，英語對英語專業的學生來説有時是個限制因素。英語只能作為一種交流工具，現在大多數的人都可以説一口流利的英語就算對英語語法知識不是很瞭解。而且，這些非英語專業的學生，譬如，計
算機專業的學生，他們本身的計算機專業知識就是他們的一個特長。可以説他們同時掌握了兩門專業知識。這對我們來説是個很大的挑戰。在擇業時，面對的競爭也較大。其次，英語專業面對的擇業範圍較為狹窄。一般，只能選擇與英語專業有關的職業，而與英語專業相關的職業部外乎就是翻譯、新聞英語之類等。總之，相對於許多專業來説，英語專業的擇業翻譯還是比較狹窄的。
再次，我個人認為英語大學本科畢業後就已經拿到了專業八級證書了已經達到了比較頂尖級的水平了，如果接着考研還是考英語專業的話，那麼英語對於我來説不再是一種交流工具了，而轉為研究對象，而我對自己研究英語這方面沒有信心也沒有興趣。
第四，對於跨專業考研，在選擇所跨專業方面時也困難重重。由於英語專業大學四年都不學習數學，所以跨專業考研時選擇的專業範圍也被縮小了，不能選擇需要考數學的專業。如果硬要選擇必需要考數學的專業就必須從現在開始補習數學。第五，出國讀研究生在選擇專業方面也遇到了同樣的問題。在選擇國家方面，國家的消費水平是不是太高等問題也影響了選擇。
最終選擇還是從事英語方面的工作主要是因為自己的專業是英語專業，而且將來考研的方向極大可能是以上的第二方面。基於英語專
業且在國外讀研究生這一因素，決定選擇在外企從事有關翻譯的工作。
這個職業目標的成功選擇讓我對職業目標的決策方法有了一定的認識。首先，在選擇職業目標是首要考慮的問題是個人自身問題。要對自我優缺點等進行一個全面透徹的分析。自己專業的優缺點，專業面對的擇業範圍等方面都要有個全面而深刻的瞭解。其次，要考慮到職業本身的問題。自己的職業範圍是不是跟專業對口，或者合適自己。即我們通常所説的人職匹配。不要對自己將要選擇的職業期望過高，往往會導致職業決策的失誤。
在對自我進行分析方面，主要考慮的是自我性格（temperament），以性格確定自己是怎樣的一類人羣，從而確定比較適合自己的職業羣。在上課過程中的各種性格等測試都證明我是個外向的人，比較適合的工作是交流、溝通等方面的工作，於是確定了從事翻譯工作。其次考慮的是我的技能（my skills）。我目前擁有的技能、特長，我的工作需要我擁有而我不具備的技能。通過這一分析給自己定一個目標，把自己不具備的技能列舉出來並且把提高方法一一列舉出來，在日後的訓練過程中着重提高這些方面的技能，從而能更好的勝任這個職業目標。再次，個人價值觀問題( value ) 對自己價值觀進行一個全面透徹的分析。並把自己典型的一天所作的事情一一詳細的寫下來。
在擇業過程中家庭的影響也是個重要因素。兒女總之父母的希望所在，所以在擇業時也會考慮到父母的期望，我爸爸就希望我做個大學教授，他説這份工作比較穩定，比較適合女生。在擇業初期，也確實想到要做大學教授，然而隨着自己對自己的瞭解越來越來深刻，最終還是決定第一擇業目標是個英文翻譯員，而大學教授放到了第二擇業選擇。我的第三個職業目標是外企的人力資源部門經理。英語專業面臨的職業羣只能是與英語專業有關的職業，因此自己在擇業時選擇的都是外企，根本上還是與英語專業相關聯。對於第一個職業目標，自己還是比較滿意的，它跟自己的專業適合，而且跟個人的性格比較適合，還可以在工作過程中提高個人的技能（my skills）和專業知識。
職業目標初步定了下來，接下來的就是如何實現這個目標的具體實踐了。
作為一個外企的英語翻譯員必須具備以下素質：
ⅰ．基本技能（basic skills）：一個英文翻譯員最基本的還是能牢固的掌握和運用自己的專業知識。這些技能包括聽力理解能力
（listening），只有能夠聽懂外國人在説些什麼才有可能跟他們溝通和交流；表達自己觀點的技能（speaking），一個有思想的人必須具備正確表達自己的能力；寫作能力 (writing)；閲讀並理解文章的技能 (reading)；
ⅱ．提升技能（skills for promotion）：各種證書(certifications)，雖然有時候證書只是一中形式，但卻起着極大的作用．各種等級證書是必須的，尤其是翻譯證書，當然還有專業八級等證書；責任心 (responsibilities)，對於每個行業來説都是必須的．一個優秀的翻譯員尤其要熱愛翻譯行業，責任心強，性格穩重細緻.合作項目的洽談、翻譯及英文撰寫等工作；交流溝通能力(communication)，翻譯員被譽為“溝通的橋樑”，所以積極和人進行溝通，並參與相關活動等都是必須的．良好的人際溝通與組織協調能力；具有較強的公共能力；團隊合作精神( teamwork)，人際交往能力強 ，和自己團隊搞好關係；母語（mother language）中文書寫能力強，翻譯員最終還是為了幫助中英雙方的溝通，所以較好的中文是必須的；禮節，禮貌
(manners)，舉止要得體，畢竟英文翻譯員有時代表的不止是自己有時還代表着一定的團體甚至是一個國家的形象；謙虛( be modesty or appreciate other?s perspectives)，謙虛並能容納別人觀點；態度 (attitude)，做事認真負責，為人正直 ；邏輯( logic)，條理清晰，明白易懂、一目瞭然，所以要善於交流 ；創新意識( innovation)； ⅲ．個人特長 (personal advantages)：特殊的證書( special
certifications)，這類證書比如：其他語言類的證書、比賽證書等等；豐富的經驗( experience)，尤其是國際版權貿易經驗；特殊技能 (peculiar skills)，熟悉office等辦公軟件，熟悉商業信函的寫作，具備計算機應用的基礎能力；各方面綜合能力 (comprehensive skills)，有時翻譯員不止是翻譯的工作，甚至還要做好翻譯員、參事員、協調
