一、作形容詞使用
1、still 作為形容詞時，指沒有運動或動作的狀態，相當於 motionless，常譯為“靜止的”、“不動的”。例句：
（1） The doctor asked me to keep still. 醫生叫我不要動。
（2） The old woman sat still for about an hour. 那個老婦人一動不動，坐了大約一個小時。
（3） Her hands were never still. 她的雙手從來不停歇。
2、still 還可以指完全沒有聲響的，常譯為“寧靜的”、“平靜的”、“寂靜的”。例句：
（1） How still everything is! 一切是多麼寂靜啊！
（2） The forest was very still. 森林裏非常寂靜。
（3） The room was still at the end of the speech. 演講過後，室內一片寂靜。
與 calm 不同的是，still 常用於指生理上的安靜，而 calm 則表示內在的平靜狀態，指人沒有不安寧的表 現或巨大的激動。
例句： (4) Even after his wife died he was calm. 儘管他妻子死了，他仍很鎮靜。
（5） The night was very still. 那天晚上很寧靜。
二、作副詞使用
1、still 作副詞使用時，含有“仍舊”、“還”之意，表示某事仍在繼續，多用於肯定句或疑問句之中。例句：
（1） My mother is still cooking. 我媽媽還在做飯。
（2） Her arm still hurts. 她的胳膊還在痛。
（3） In spite of his shortcomings, the girl still loved him. 儘管他有缺點，那個女孩仍然愛他。
（4） Are you still working there? 你還在那裏工作嗎？
（5） Will you still go there tomorrow? 明天你還會去那兒嗎？ 試比較：
（6） He still stands. （副詞） 他仍舊站着。
（7） Stand still. （形容詞） 站好別動。
still 有時也可用於否定句中，表示某事尚未完成或發生，此時，它要放於否定的助動詞之前（在否定句 中常用 yet） 。例句：
（8） She still hasn't come back. 她還沒有回來。
（9） I still don't understand. 我仍舊不明白。
（10） The bus hasn't arrived yet. 汽車還沒有到達。
2、still 還可以用來修飾比較級，相當於 even，可譯為“更”、“還要”、“甚”。例句：
（1） We must study still harder. 我們必須更加努力地學習。
（2） It was cold yesterday, but today it is still colder. 昨天天氣很冷，可今天卻更冷。
（3） Her sister is still taller. 她妹妹個子還要高。
（4） They came still earlier. 他們來得更早。
三、作連詞使用
still 作為連詞時含有“儘管如此，可還是要”、“然而”、“不過”之意。例句：
（1） Although we are very tired, still we shall work. 雖然我們很累，但我們還將工作。
（2） She was thirsty, still she wouldn't drink. 她雖然渴了，但仍不喝東西。
（3） I like cats; still I don't care to own one. 我雖然喜歡貓，但不願意養貓。
（4） This is a very unpleasant affair. Still, we can't change it. 這是件很不愉快的事，但是我們無法改變它。
此外，still 可以與 more 連用，相當於 much more，常譯“至於……更不必説”。 例句：
She can speak English, still more Japanese. 她連英語都會説，日語更不在話下。
still 還可以和 less 連用，多用於否定句之後，相當於 much less，常譯為“更何況”、“更不用説”。例句：
I didn't even see her, still less speak to her. 我見也沒有見到她，更不用説和她説話了。
1、表示“仍然”“仍舊”，表示動作、狀態、情形等的延續或反覆，通常位於特殊動詞之後，實義動詞之前，有時也放在句末。如：
He’s still in hospital but out of danger.
他仍在住院，但已脱離了危險。
He still often works on Sundays. 他仍然常在星期日工作。We could still change our minds. 我們還可以改變主意。若用於否定句，通常應放在否定詞之前。如：
I still don’t understand what you mean.
我還是不明白你的意思。
When I came back at midnight he still hadn’t finished.我半夜回來時，他還沒有做完。
比較在否定句中它與yet的區別。
He still doesn’t understand.
他仍然不懂。（“不懂”這一否定意義還在延續）
He doesn’t understand yet.
他還沒有弄懂。（“懂得”這一肯定意義還沒開始）
2、用來修飾比較級加強語氣（可置於比較級之前或之後），意為“更加”“越發”等。如：
That would be still nicer [nicer still]。 那就更好了。
He works hard, but she works still harder [harder still]。他工作很努力，但她工作更努力。
3、有時用來修飾句子，表示讓步，可以置於句首，意為“儘管如此，還……”。如：
She is not pretty nor clever, but still she is loved byeverybody. 她既不漂亮也不聰明，但還是人見人愛。
He treated you badly; still, he’s your brother and youshould help him. 他待你不好，但他終歸是你兄弟，你應該幫助他。
